Surgical Assistant Accounts

ID #1012

Why do other companies charge a set-up or annual fee and you don't?

That is a question that we get a lot, and we are fiercely criticized from our competitors because of this and defend themselves stating that it is impossible to obtain something for nothing, well, the answer is very simple:

  • a) We don't find a valid reason to charge a set-up or annual fee*, while in general physician billing there is resources, money and time spent, configuring an office network, designing superbills and training staff, this is not the case for Surgical Assistant practices.
  • b) If you pay a set-up fee or an up-front annual fee and you find out 4-5 months down the road that your claims are not getting paid or they are not doing the appropriate follow up on your claims, you are basically "stuck" with them because of this fee and they already gained from you, even though you didn't get the service that you expected. It is a subtle form of keeping your business even if they provide sub-optimal results.
  • c) As practicing surgical assistants we believe that you are the individual with the knowledge, effort and the one that deserves the reimbursement for your services, and 7.5% is more than enough for our billing and collection efforts.

We agree with our competitors regarding that what counts is:

  • a) Results: We have billed for 2 major surgical assistant companies since 1997, our current company employs 7 surgical assistants and have been in the black 3 months from its inception in 2001, relying solely on third party billing. If we didn't produce results this company would have gone?bankrupt or out of business?a long time ago, with the benefits and salaries that this company pays their assistants.
  • b) Experience: We have billed specifically for non-physician surgical assistants since 1997 with an average of 3500 claims per year.
  • c) Knowledge: The founder of SurgBill, Inc. are a practicing surgical assistant and a claims specialist, that understands your concerns and issues first hand.
  • d) Involvement: Our founder is the President for the Illinois Surgical Assistant Association, Member of the Nomination and Election Committee and Chairman for the Website Committee for the National Surgical Assistant Association. And his input in front of the Texas Sunrise Commission was key to prevent the abolishment of the Surgical Assistant license in December 2004. (see issue 10 on the following page:

Our philosophy is simple, try us out without any strings attached, no upfront or annual fees, and if we don't do our job to your satisfaction, we lose your business and you didn't lose any fees that you have already paid.

* There will be a retainer fee of $1000.00 if you open an account with us and do not submit claims in a period of 3 months.
